The New Mexico Tourism Dept. coined the phrase “The Land of Enchantment” in 1935 to attract more visitors. By 1941 the phrase was placed on license plates and came into common usage soon thereafter. The state is blessed with stunning desert landscapes, breathtaking snowcapped mountains, amazing sunsets, remarkable national monuments, and blue skies like no other. With its rich Native American and Mexican culture in the arts, music and cuisine, it is of little wonder that New Mexico truly is “The Land of Enchantment”.
