It's Fall
Leaf Peeping Season
October is peak “Leaf Peeping” time in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Early to mid-October provides the spectacular beauty of the Quaking Aspens that are plentiful in the expansive groves that cover our higher mountain regions. Growing anywhere between 20 – 80 ft. tall, these aspens got their name from how even the slightest breeze makes their leaves flutter or quake. Mid to late October showcases the Rocky Mountain Maples (scrub-oaks) and Cottonwood Trees. As snow falls on the higher peaks, it is one of the most breathtaking sites you can imagine.
